Eligible Applicants

Chinese Applicants - Chinese Government agencies at central and provincial level, Chinese universities and institutions, and other non-profit NGOs working on health systems, EIDs or HIV/AIDS

Australian Applicants – Australian Commonwealth, State and Territory agencies, universities and institutes with expertise in health systems, EIDs or HIV, working in partnership with a Chinese agency

Indicative Selection Criteria

Activities proposed for funding support:

  • mMust directly support and have a clear relevance to agreed objectives of the Facility
  • must support the policy objectives of Chinese Government, and be compatible with the strategies of the Australian Government’s development cooperation program
  • must have a clear and measurable China health sector capacity development objective

In addition, activities proposed for funding support may:

  • involve a partnership or collaboration between Chinese and Australian agencies, institutes, universities or non-government organizations
  • introduce innovation of high importance to China’s health systems or response to HIV or Emerging Infectious Diseases
  • have the potential to directly inform health policy in China
  • test different strategies for capacity development
  • promote gender equity and address other social equity
  • have scope for follow-on activities that may increase the activity’s scope and impact
  • be regional in nature, or have the potential to extend lessons learned to other countries in the Asia Pacific region 

Activity examples from 1 round application

Currently CAHHF funds a range of activities which aim to build capacity in Chinese health system, inform health policy at different levels, improve social equity and promote China-Australia partnership in health.
 
Some examples include support to:

  • development of the Healthy China 2020 strategy and other health policy development
  • development of standards and resources in various parts of the health system, including primary health care, women and children’s health and urban community health
  • research into new models for health human resources in China
  • infectious disease surveillance and warning systems
  • studies of other emerging infections
  • national strategies for HIV through the China HIV/AIDS Roadmap Tactical Support Project (CHARTS)
  • The China program within AusAID’s regional work on HIV, the HIV/AIDS Asia Regional Program (HAARP)
