Activity Design Workshop Newsletter

The first Activity Design Workshop of the CAHHF was successfully conducted on 4-5 June 2008 in Beijing. There were approximately 40 participants (except one agency from Sichuan province who was not able to attend due to their engagement in quake response) attended the workshop.

Mr. Victor Dong, the Facility Manager of CAHHF, presided over the workshop. The representatives from both Australian and Chinese sides including Ms Kirsty Dudgeon, First Secretary from AusAID Beijing, Mr. Nie Jiangang, Deputy Division Director from the Department of International Cooperation, MOH and also as the Chinese Senior Health Adviser, Dr Michael Fett, the Australian Senior Health Adviser for CAHHF, Mr. Chris Morgan, the Facility Coordinator from the Burnet Institute, Cai Linna, the Senior Program Officer from AusAID and Shao Meng, Program Officer from the Department of International Cooperation, MOH. Four national and international experts were invited to the workshop for providing hands on technical guidance to the individual implementing agencies on their design documents in addition to the technical input from the Australian and the Chinese SHAs.

A general session was arranged for the experts and the FMT to make presentations on project design, gender and monitoring and evaluation in the first day morning. This was followed by group discussions under the three themes of HIV, EID and HSS and feedback provided by experts on the first draft of designs. The representatives from the implementing agencies were welcomed to comment on each others designs as well as the technical experts which lead to really interesting and productive discussions. Feedback from participants on the workshop was very positive. By participating in this workshop, the implementing agencies improve their capacity on designing work plans and also enhance their confidence to implement the projects successfully in the future.
