Launch of CAHHF Activity: Genetics and Epidemiology Studies on Multi-Drug Resistant TB in China
The Activity of Genetics and Epidemiology Studies on Multi-Drug Resistant TB in China (EID 23) was successfully launched in Beijing on 8th June, 2009. The 19 month, RMB 1.8m pilot study is implemented by Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS) and aims to understand the relationship between associated genes and drug resistance to clinical multi-drug resistant TB (MDR-TB).
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Nie Jiangang, Deputy Director of Division of European, American and Oceanian Affairs of Ministry of Health stated MDR-TB is a priority for China’s efforts in emerging infectious diseases protection. AusAID’s Grand Morrison added that this activity would benefit TB prevention and control not only in China but also worldwide. The leaders of implementing agencies Chinese Academy of Medical Science and Henan provincial CDC committed to disseminating experience gained through the project.
