Rural Food Safety project launches in Hubei
The Rural Food Safety: New Models for Promotion, Training and Multisectoral Cooperation Mechanism Exploration in Pilot Areas” (HSS901) project aims to enhance the development of rural food safety inspection teams. Led by the Ministry of Health’s National Centre for Health Inspection and Supervision, the project will also explore and establish mechanisms for publicising food safety in rural areas, to raise awareness among the rural population.
Presided over by Mr. Chen Yongxiang, Deputy Director of the National Centre of Health Inspection and Supervision, the launch took place in Huanggang City, Hubei Province on the 27th November 2009. The launch’s thirty attendees, included representatives from AusAID, CAHHF, the National Centre of Health Inspection and Supervision and the Hubei Department of Health, as well as representatives from the Bureau of Health Inspection and Supervision, and the project’s pilot areas.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Nan Junhua, Director of National Centre of Health Inspection and Supervision pointed out that this project marked the first China-Australian cooperation for his agency. He further emphasised that this activity would play an important role in building the capacity of Chinese rural food safety inspection.
Mr. Lu Jiang, the project’s Activity Manager, introduced the background, objectives and outcomes of this activity. At the outset, the National Centre of Health Inspection and Supervision will work with seven counties from seven provinces, Heilongjiang, Shandong, Sichuan, Guangdong, Hubei, Liaoning, etc. During the ceremony, the National Centre for Health Inspection and Supervision signed agreements with a further seven provinces.
